He lies flat on the bars, at full sprint. At 54 millimetres he is small enough to work as decoration on a bookshelf or windowsill. He is cast in a zinc alloy and painted by hand, and his weight keeps him standing wherever you set him down. An ideal gift for anyone who loves cycling.

The Sprinter

This is the Sprinter: bent low over the bars with his head down, giving everything he has in the last two hundred metres of the race. Of the five riding positions the Bernard & Eddy riders come in, this is the fastest — and the mirror image of the Winner, who throws an arm up a few seconds later. Put the two together and you have the finale of a flat stage.

The Swiss jersey

At a world championship or the Olympic Games, riders compete for their country rather than their trade team, in the national jersey. Switzerland rides in red with the white cross — one of the few jerseys in the collection you recognise at a glance, however small the figurine.

Fabian

Every cyclist by Bernard & Eddy carries a first name. Do you know who this one is? Fabian refers to Fabian Cancellara, nicknamed Spartacus. He was world time trial champion four times and won both Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders three times — often alone at the front, in exactly this position.

Features

Brand: Bernard & Eddy - View the entire collection

Name: Fabian

Jersey: Switzerland, red with white cross

Position: the Sprinter

Material: zinc alloy

Painting: by hand

Dimensions: 54 x 58 mm

Weight: 30 grams

Age: from 3 years

Safety: EN71 1-2-3 and ASTM

One rider is a beginning, not an end

Set Fabian against the other national jerseys: the red with the white cross stands out among the tricolours. They were largely forgotten by the start of this century, until Bernard & Eddy brought the tradition back. There are no sponsors or logos on these riders, only countries and symbolic jerseys. “Long live the flags”, as the brand puts it.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0505/9044/9818/files/Sprinter_Kampioen_Zwitserland_Fabian-designmarket.today_A.jpg?v=1787220642
