Gelderlander 01│Christien Meindertsma

Gelderlander is a design by Christien Meindertsma for the label Thomas Eyck. Commissioned by furniture manufacturer Gelderland, she came up with a way to use residual material from the production process. She designed Gelderlander, a fabric horse made entirely from residual material. That makes every Gelderlander unique! Each copy is photographed separately, so that the copy you receive with your order is actually the copy as depicted.

The story behind the Gelderlander
The Dutch furniture manufacturer Gelderland has been making high-quality sofas and chairs since 1936. When cutting out the furniture fabrics, there are inevitably leftovers on the sides of the fabric. The Gelderlander is made from this. The edges of the fabric, the selvedge, form the horse's mane. The tail consists of the chain, which has been removed from the fabric. The filling is made from residual material, which is used in the production of sofas. The horse's legs are provided with a wooden claw, which is used in the production.

The Gelderlander is also a reference to the Gelderlander horse breed, which was formerly bred in the province of Gelderland. A powerful, warm-blooded horse breed, which was used as a versatile work or police horse. Today it is still used as a carriage horse at the royal stables.

Thomas Eyck
Thomas Eyck is a publisher of exclusive contemporary design products. In collaboration with major Dutch designers such as studio Job, Christien Meindertsma and Hella Jongerius, he creates various collections. Thomas Eyck often takes a material, such as glass or tin, or a concept as a starting point. He chooses the right designer and the right production process for this. This love for material and design and the attention to careful, often manual production ensure unique, timeless objects.

Retourneren binnen Nederland is gratis. U kunt uw bestelling tot 14 dagen na ontvangst zonder reden annuleren via de e-mail van MyParcel, waar u een retourlabel kunt aanmaken. Na annulering heeft u nog 14 dagen om het product te retourneren bij een PostNL punt. U ontvangt het volledige orderbedrag terug, exclusief verzendkosten naar de klant. Het product moet met alle toebehoren en, indien mogelijk, in originele staat en verpakking worden geretourneerd. Wij storten het bedrag binnen 14 dagen na ontvangst van de retourzending terug. Voor andere Europese landen geldt een retourbijdrage, berekend via de MyParcel-link.
