Stationery | Fountain Pens and Notebooks

A pen that sits well in your hand

A quick note is easily made with an ordinary ballpoint. But a pen that sits well in your hand makes all the difference. This collection holds pens in brass, aluminium and steel that carry more weight than you are used to and write more smoothly for it. Refills and ink can be replaced, so this is writing equipment that lasts years, and perhaps a lifetime.

The notebooks and diaries stay with you too. They are special enough that you keep them as a memento once they are full.

The Sport series by Kaweco

A large part of this collection comes from Kaweco, a German brand that has been making pens since the nineteenth century. The Sport is their best-known model: octagonal, short enough for a trouser pocket, and at full length as soon as you post the cap on the back. It comes in four versions that differ mainly in material and weight, from the light Classic in plastic to AL in aluminium, Steel in stainless steel and Brass in solid brass, which darkens into a patina over the years. Each version is available as a fountain pen, ballpoint, rollerball and mechanical pencil. Alongside those are the slim Liliput, the thicker Supra, separate clips and leather cases.

Notebooks made from old book covers

The notebooks by About Blanks are made by hand from the covers of old books, giving those books a second life. Every copy is therefore different, and there is only one of each. They come in small, medium, large and X-large.

Books to write in

Alongside general notebooks there are editions with a purpose, such as a guest book and a recipe book by Printworks, and a diary by Midori. All three are meant to be filled and then kept. The Paperscraper notepad by Seltmann works the other way round: you tear the sheets off a large block shaped like an iconic building — a townhouse in Soho in New York, Le Corbusier's housing block in Marseille, or a classic American cinema from the 1930s.
