A floor lamp without a cable

Beside your favourite reading chair you want a reading lamp. But there is usually no socket next to the chair. The Ronda and Tubo floor lamps by the German brand Sompex run on a battery, so you can stand them in the middle of the room with no cable across the floor. Beside the chair, behind the sofa, or even outside on the terrace, because they are rain resistant.

Charging takes eight hours. After that the lamp burns for six hours at full brightness, and up to eighty-eight hours dimmed — around ten evenings of soft light on a single full charge.

The head turns all the way round

The Ronda and Tubo are built from a round stem with one or two heads attached by a magnet. That lets you turn them a full three hundred and sixty degrees and aim the light exactly where you want it — at your book, at the wall, or upwards for indirect light.

Tubo or Ronda

Both models by Sompex share the same build but differ in the head. The Tubo has a tubular head that focuses the light like a spot: directed light for reading or for picking something out.

The Ronda has a flat, round head with an adjustable beam. From a wide spread that lights the whole corner to a narrow spot — one lamp covers both.

Each lamp comes with one head or two. With two heads you light two places at once, say two chairs, or a chair and the wall behind it. The two heads dim independently of each other.
