About Relaxound

Relaxound is a German brand that makes sound boxes for the interior. They are small houses with a front in acrylic or wood, in a range of colours and finishes. A motion sensor triggers the sound: walk past and you hear birds chirping, the sea, or the jungle. After a while it stops by itself — how long depends on the box. You can stand them up or hang them on the wall, so they fit in anywhere.

The power of sound

Sound affects us more than we think. It can calm us, help us concentrate, and give a room a different feeling or character. We furnish a room with colour and furniture, but we usually leave the sound to chance. Relaxound's sound boxes shape the experience of a space acoustically as well.

Which box suits which room

The best known is the Zwitscherbox, with several birds chirping for two minutes — available with a front in acrylic or in oak, walnut and bamboo. The Oceanbox plays the sea and seabirds, the Junglebox the rainforest, the Lakesidebox ducks by the water, and the Heidibox the Alps, cowbells included. The Birdybox is a smaller house with twenty seconds of birdsong, and the Birdytimer is a kitchen timer that ends with birdsong instead of a beep.

Build a soundscape of your own

Alongside the larger boxes there are the Satelliteboxes: smaller houses with the sound of a single bird — the blackbird, nightingale, song thrush, northern cardinal or tawny owl — or of a wind chime, a forest brook, forest rain or crickets. These play for sixty seconds. They are made to be combined. Hang a Zwitscherbox in the hallway with a Satellitebox of your favourite bird beside it, and build a soundscape of your own.

1% for the planet

1% for the planet asks companies to contribute to protecting the environment. Relaxound donates 1% of its annual turnover to two environmental organisations. In Germany that is the Bergwaldprojekt, which works to preserve and care for the forest. In India, where the production facility is based, part of the donation goes to Sadhana Forest: an ecological project that refills groundwater reservoirs so that food can be grown and villagers do not have to move to the urban slums.
