Extension Piece Coatrack by the Meter | 20 cm Gold | Vij5

This extension piece belongs to Coatrack by the Meter, the wall coat rack by Maarten Baptist for the Dutch design label Vij5. It is a straight length of the same powder-coated steel tube, 20 cm long, but without hooks. This version is gold-coloured.

A quiet stretch between the hooks

A rack that runs the full width of the wall does not need hooks all the way along. This extension piece sets a length of empty tube between two sections of rack: 20 cm with nothing on it. That gives the composition room to breathe, and it is useful where you do not want a coat — beside a door, above a radiator or next to a switch. You can also put it at the end, so the line carries on into the corner of the room. Like the sections of rack, the extension piece is screwed to the wall itself, so it does not hang from the coupling.

Part of the system

Coatrack by the Meter is built from separate parts you combine yourself: racks of 20, 50 and 100 cm, extension pieces without hooks in 20 and 50 cm for a quiet stretch between the hooks, and an oak shelf that rests on exactly two hooks. The connecting plates are supplied according to the number of elements, so the parts line up precisely. For inspiration and an overview of all the parts, see the overview page for Coatrack by the Meter.

Made in the Eindhoven region

The tubes are laser-cut industrially, which leaves little waste; the hooks are bent by hand and the powder coating is done by a company near Eindhoven. The packaging is Dutch recycled cardboard.
