Wall Coat Rack Coatrack by the Meter | 50 cm Mint Green | Vij5

Coatrack by the Meter is a wall coat rack of powder-coated steel, designed by Maarten Baptist for the Dutch design label Vij5. A hook is laser-cut out of a square steel tube of 4 × 4 cm every ten centimetres, and then bent outwards by hand. This version is 50 cm long, has five hooks and is mint green.

After the example of the Shakers

The design refers to the Shakers, the American religious community known for its craftsmanship and its plain, austere furniture. They fitted peg rails along the full length of the wall, right around the room. As in their work, everything superfluous has been left out here: there is no board, no frame and no visible fixing, only the tube and the hooks.

Set your own length

The rack comes in 20, 50 and 100 cm, and those sections can be linked together until the length suits your wall. The corner piece takes the rack 90 degrees around a corner, or lets you set different heights on a flat wall: one row at coat height and a lower row for children, or simply because it looks good. There are also extension pieces without hooks in 20 and 50 cm for a quiet stretch between the hooks, and an oak shelf that rests on exactly two hooks. Made in the Eindhoven region

The tubes are laser-cut industrially, which leaves little waste; the hooks are bent by hand and the powder coating is done by a company near Eindhoven. The packaging is Dutch recycled cardboard.

About Maarten Baptist

Maarten Baptist is a Dutch product designer with a studio in Eindhoven. He makes things for everyday use at home and in the office, in a style he himself calls minimalist and elegant, and in which getting the proportions right comes first. Besides Coatrack by the Meter he has designed the Outline cutlery, the Lucky Love Chair and the YVE hand mirror, among others. He shows his work at international fairs under the name JOINE.

Vij5 is a Dutch design label of interior accessories, furniture and lighting. Arjan van Raadshoven and Anieke Branderhorst are its founders and put the collection together. The attention to the product and the story behind it come first. When a concept appeals to them it is translated into something that can be produced, made with care for materials and by skilled craftspeople. They work with well-known designers such as Floris Hovers, Maarten Baptist, Ontwerpduo, Daphna Laurens and David Derksen.

We aim to deliver your order quickly. Orders placed on weekdays before 4 PM will be shipped the same day, unless otherwise stated. Sometimes delivery may be delayed, for example if a product is out of stock. In that case, we will inform you as soon as possible and you can cancel if you wish.

Within the Netherlands, shipping is free from €49,-, otherwise it costs €4,95. Returns cost €3,95. In Belgium and Germany, shipping is free from €69,-, otherwise it costs €4,95, and returns cost €4,95.

Returns within the Netherlands cost €3.95. You can cancel your order up to 14 days after receipt without giving a reason via the email from our shipping partner Sendcloud. This email contains a link to the return portal, where you can create a return label.
After cancellation, you have another 14 days to return the product at a PostNL point. You will receive the full order amount back, excluding any shipping costs to the customer. The product must be returned with all accessories and, if possible, in its original condition and packaging. We will refund the amount within 14 days of receiving the return shipment. For other European countries, a return fee applies, calculated via the Sendcloud link.
