Candle Holder Fixum | Floris Hovers | Pink & Orange | Vij5

The Fixum is a candle holder of steel, pear wood and brass, designed by Floris Hovers for the Dutch design label Vij5. A horizontal plate and a vertical plate on a block of pear wood clamp the candle between them; you tighten the vertical plate with a brass wing screw. This version has a pink base with an orange slider.

One holder for every candle thickness

The slider moves across the block of pear wood and adapts to the thickness of the candle: anything between Ø 20 and 35 mm is held firmly. A slim dinner candle and a thick pillar candle go into the same holder. You can see exactly how it works — the construction is the design, with nothing wrapped around it. The name comes from Latin and means 'fastened, fixed'.

A limited edition in four colours

Vij5 makes the Fixum in limited editions and chooses new colour combinations for each series together with Floris Hovers. Earlier editions do not return. This series uses four RAL colours, in varying combinations of base and slider:

• Yellow: RAL 1014 | Ivory
• Green: RAL 6028 | Pine green
• Pink: RAL 3012 | Beige red
• Orange: RAL 2001 | Red orange

About Floris Hovers

Floris Hovers (1976) graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2004 and set up his own studio in 2006 in Raamsdonksveer, the village where he grew up. His work comes down to a single principle: leave out whatever is not needed, until only the essential remains. A design of his often shows how it was made. He became known for his wooden toy cars Archetoys and has also designed for Magis and Cor Unum, among others. In 2011 he received the Sanoma Woon Award for young talent.

About Vij5

Vij5 is a Dutch design label of interior accessories, furniture and lighting. Arjan van Raadshoven and Anieke Branderhorst are its founders and put the collection together. When a concept appeals to them it is translated into something that can be produced, made with care for materials and by skilled craftspeople. They work with well-known designers such as Floris Hovers, Maarten Baptist, Ontwerpduo, Daphna Laurens and David Derksen.
