This miniature cyclist from the Belgian brand Bernard & Eddy wears the polka dot jersey of the Tour de France. He is 54 millimetres tall, cast in a zinc alloy and painted by hand. Small enough to work as decoration on a bookshelf or windowsill, and heavy enough to stay put wherever you set him down. An ideal gift for anyone who loves cycling.
The polka dot jersey
White with red dots: the jersey for the best climber in the Tour de France. Points are awarded at the summit of every categorised climb, and the harder the mountain, the more there are to win. It is the only classification that is not about speed but about riding uphill — which makes it a favourite with a lot of cycling fans.
Richard
Every cyclist by Bernard & Eddy carries a first name. Do you know who this one is? For the polka dot jersey the answer is Richard, after Richard Virenque. He won the mountains classification seven times, more than anyone else, and for years was the crowd favourite of the French mountain stages.
The Rider
This is the Rider: upright in the saddle, hands on the bars, turning the pedals steadily. It is the calmest of the five positions, and the one that lets you build a convincing peloton. Alongside the Rider there are the Sprinter, the Climber, the Winner and the Thirsty One, all available in different jerseys.

One rider is a beginning, not an end
The polka dot jersey belongs on a Climber, standing on the pedals — put one next to this Rider and you see the difference between the mountains and the flat. Or keep the four Tour jerseys together: the yellow, the green, the white and the polka dot. The more riders, the more it starts to look like a real bike race.
About Bernard & Eddy
Miniature riders first appeared in the 1930s, when the organisers of the Tour de France wanted to put the national teams in the spotlight with a publicity caravan. They were largely forgotten by the start of this century, until Bernard & Eddy brought the tradition back. There are no sponsors or logos on these riders, only countries and symbolic jerseys. “Long live the flags”, as the brand puts it.
