Miniature Cyclist Pink Jersey Giro | the Climber | Bernard & Eddy

This miniature cyclist from the Belgian brand Bernard & Eddy wears the pink jersey of the Giro d'Italia. He is out of the saddle, on a climb. At 54 millimetres he is small enough to work as decoration on a bookshelf or windowsill. He is cast in a zinc alloy and painted by hand, and his weight keeps him standing wherever you set him down. The Climber

This is the Climber: out of the saddle, weight on the pedals, the way a rider takes a steep ramp. Of the five riding positions the Bernard & Eddy riders come in, this is the only one where he stands upright — the counterpart to the Sprinter, who makes himself as small as he can.

The pink jersey

The maglia rosa goes to the leader of the general classification in the Giro d'Italia — the Giro's equivalent of the yellow jersey. The pink comes from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian sports paper that organises the race and is printed on pink paper. The Giro is decided in the Dolomites, so a Climber in pink is exactly the image of that race.

Gino

Every cyclist by Bernard & Eddy carries a first name. Do you know who this one is? Gino refers to Gino Bartali, who won the Giro three times and the Tour de France twice — ten years apart, interrupted by the war.

During those war years he did something he never spoke about himself: he rode long distances between Florence and Assisi with forged documents hidden in the frame of his bike, papers that allowed Jewish families to go into hiding. Training rides, he said whenever he was stopped. Only after his death was he recognised as Righteous Among the Nations.

About Bernard & Eddy

Miniature riders first appeared in the 1930s, when the organisers of the Tour de France wanted to put the national teams in the spotlight with a publicity caravan. They were largely forgotten by the start of this century, until Bernard & Eddy brought the tradition back. There are no sponsors or logos on these riders, only countries and symbolic jerseys. “Long live the flags”, as the brand puts it.

Within the Netherlands, shipping is free from €49,-, otherwise it costs €4,95. Returns cost €3,95. In Belgium and Germany, shipping is free from €69,-, otherwise it costs €4,95, and returns cost €4,95.

Returns within the Netherlands cost €3.95. You can cancel your order up to 14 days after receipt without giving a reason via the email from our shipping partner Sendcloud. This email contains a link to the return portal, where you can create a return label.
After cancellation, you have another 14 days to return the product at a PostNL point. You will receive the full order amount back, excluding any shipping costs to the customer. The product must be returned with all accessories and, if possible, in its original condition and packaging. We will refund the amount within 14 days of receiving the return shipment. For other European countries, a return fee applies, calculated via the Sendcloud link.
