This miniature female cyclist from the Belgian brand Bernard & Eddy wears the rainbow jersey of the world champion. She lies flat on the bars, at full sprint. At 54 millimetres she is small enough to work as decoration on a bookshelf or windowsill. But this is a striking figure that draws the eye wherever you put her. She is cast in a zinc alloy and painted by hand, and her weight keeps her standing wherever you set her down. An ideal gift for anyone who loves cycling.
The Ladies
New to the collection: female riders. Where the Bernard & Eddy peloton was made up of men only, the Ladies now ride along — in the same jerseys and at the same scale. That reflects a cycling world in which the women's peloton has found an audience of its own in recent years, with the Tour de France Femmes and classics followed as closely as the men's.
The Sprinter
The Ladies come in one position: that of the Sprinter. Bent low over the bars with the head down, giving everything in the last two hundred metres of the race. Of the five riding positions the Bernard & Eddy riders come in, this is the fastest.
The rainbow jersey
The world champion wears a white jersey with five coloured bands: from top to bottom blue, red, black, yellow and green. They are the same colours as the rings on the Olympic flag, and they stand for the different continents. Whoever wins the world championship may wear the jersey for a year in every road race.
Jeannie
Every female cyclist by Bernard & Eddy carries a first name of her own. Do you know who this one is? Jeannie refers to Jeannie Longo, the French rider who won thirteen world titles on the road and on the track and took Olympic gold in 1996. She was still racing well into her fifties — one of the longest careers in cycling.

One rider is a beginning, not an end

About Bernard & Eddy
Miniature riders first appeared in the 1930s, when the organisers of the Tour de France wanted to put the national teams in the spotlight with a publicity caravan. They were largely forgotten by the start of this century, until Bernard & Eddy brought the tradition back. There are no sponsors or logos on these riders, only countries and symbolic jerseys. “Long live the flags”, as the brand puts it.
