Piepei works on temperature. It continuously measures the internal temperature of the egg, and therefore knows exactly when it has reached the right hardness. It is best to store Piepei with the real eggs (e.g. in the refrigerator) so that they have the same starting temperature. Then put the Piepei in the pan at the same time as the real eggs. It does not matter whether you start with cold or boiling water. It also does not matter whether you cook one egg or a whole dozen at once.

After the Piepei has played the right melody for the right hardness, simply rinse it with cold water together with the real eggs. This will stop the cooking process and the eggs, and the Piepei will stop playing the melody. Now enjoy your perfectly boiled egg!
