Proud Mary Astonia is a hand-painted decorative statuette made of Delft Blue porcelain, consisting of four separate parts. It is a design by Chris Koens and Ramon Middelkoop for the Royal Delft pottery factory (Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles). Proud Mary Astonia, like the smaller Astonia Gold version, is inspired by a 17th-century vase from the Rijksmuseum, once created by the 'De Drie Posteleyne Astonne' factory.
Hand-painted
Proud Mary is made using two different techniques. The smaller version is made with transfers. These large versions are hand-painted by Royal Delft's master painters. The various decorations are a reference to Royal Delft's history. Proud Mary Astonia is inspired by a 17th-century vase from the Rijksmuseum, once created by the 'De Drie Posteleyne Astonne' factory.
Delft Blue
This design originated from a passion for Delft Blue and the desire to give this traditional technique a modern look & feel. Royal Delft has been producing Delft Blue products since the 17th century. Proud Mary is a tribute to Royal Delft's history and tradition. It is named after Mary Stuart II, the wife of Stadholder William III. She was a great admirer and collector of Delft Blue in the 17th century.
Mary consists of four separate elements: the skirt, the body, the collar, and the head. They are delivered as a fixed combination but are also interchangeable.

About Royal Delft
Royal Delft is also known as Porceleyne Fles. This pottery factory has been creating high-quality Delft Blue products since 1653. It is the only remaining 17th-century pottery factory in Delft that still produces traditional hand-painted porcelain.
The artisanal painting still takes center stage, but over time, various techniques have been added. For example, the transfer process is widely used, where an image is printed on the ceramic with a screen print. This results in a high-quality product that is more affordable than the hand-painted collection.
