Proud Mary Royal Delft | Wild Flower | Delftware

Proud Mary is a decorative sculpture made of Delft Blue porcelain, consisting of four separate parts. It is a design by Chris Koens and Ramon Middelkoop for the pottery factory Royal Delft (Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles).

Delft Blue

This design originated from a passion for Delft Blue and the desire to give this traditional technique a modern look & feel. Royal Delft has been producing Delft Blue products since the 17^th century. Proud Mary is a tribute to the history and tradition of Royal Delft. It is named after Mary Stuart II, the wife of Stadholder William III. She was a great admirer and collector of Delft Blue in the 17^th century.

Proud Mary | Wild Flower

Proud Mary is available in various decorations, each of which also refers to the history of Royal Delft. The collection has been expanded with a Polychrome version: Proud Mary Wild Flowers. In the 1960s, Royal Delft acquired the tile factory Westraven. A special discovery was recently made in the archive: the sketches and transfer sheets of six beautiful different floral designs from Westraven. The sketches and transfer sheets date from 1930. These sketches and transfer sheets were used as inspiration for Proud Mary's skirt. Proud Mary Wild Flower is an iconic piece from Royal Delft. She combines wonderfully with the Delft Blue versions and adds extra color to your interior.

Mary consists of four different loose elements: the skirt, the body, the collar and the head. They are supplied as a fixed combination but are also interchangeable.

About Royal Delft

Royal Delft is also known by the name Porceleyne Fles. This pottery factory has been creating high-quality Delft Blue products since 1653. It is the only remaining pottery factory from the 17^th century in Delft that still produces traditional hand-painted porcelain.
The traditional painting craft is still central, but over time, various techniques have been added. For example, the transfer process is widely used, where an image is printed on the ceramic using screen printing. This results in a high-quality product that is more affordable than the hand-painted collection.
