Plate Pisces Bruegel | Schiffmacher | Royal Delft | Delftware

The Pisces Bruegel Plate is a design by tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher for the Royal Delft pottery factory. This Delft Blue plate is part of the Schiffmacher Royal Blue Tattoo series: various ceramic products, such as plates and vases, have been adorned by Henk Schiffmacher with images featuring traditional tattoo symbols in Delft Blue. The plate is available in two sizes with different designs.

Schiffmacher Royal Blue Tattoo

This collection is a unique collaboration between tattoo artist Henk Schiffmacher and Royal Delft. The classic porcelain design of Royal Delft is combined with tattoo symbols, such as anchors and roses. At first glance, perhaps not the most obvious combination. But both use traditional crafts, which originated in a distant old world, and were brought here from overseas. Both use ink to create a one-off work of art, with a needle on the skin or with a brush on bisque.
The Schiffmacher Royal Blue Tattoo collection consists of both hand-painted items and transferred pieces.

Pisces Bruegel Plate

This Delft Blue plate is drawn after the original by Pieter Bruegel, and like many tattoos, is highly symbolic. This engraving is titled The Oppression of the Poor with the subtitle The rich people oppress you by force. This title is taken from the Gospel of James and admonishes the rich not to exploit the poor.

About Royal Delft

Royal Delft is also known as Porceleyne Fles. This pottery factory has been creating high-quality Delft Blue products since 1653. It is the only remaining 17th-century pottery factory in Delft that still produces traditional hand-painted porcelain.
The artisanal painting still takes center stage, but over time, various techniques have been added. For example, the transfer process is widely used, where an image is screen-printed onto the ceramic. This creates a high-quality product that is more affordable than the hand-painted collection.
