Tap Water Carafe | Glass Medium | Vij5

The Tap Water Carafe is a water carafe that encourages drinking tap water. This version is blown from borosilicate glass. A design by Lotte de Raadt for the Dutch design label Vij5.

The stopper refers to the tap

The carafe's stopper is shaped like a tap: exactly where you fill it. Each of the three sizes refers to a different origin of Dutch drinking water, and the shape of the bottle tells you which. This is the Dune Water: the middle size, referring to water filtered through the dunes.

Borosilicate glass instead of terracotta

This carafe is made from borosilicate glass, the same glass used in laboratories: thin, clear and good against temperature differences, and it is hand-blown in small batches. It is not self-cooling — only the terracotta version is — but you can see what is inside, which is pleasant when you add mint, lemon or cucumber. The glass version is for now available in the Dune Water shape only; the terracotta version comes in all three shapes.

Tap water instead of bottles

With the Tap Water Carafe, Lotte de Raadt wants to encourage drinking tap water. Dutch tap water is of excellent quality, thousands of times cheaper than bottled water, and it saves a great deal of plastic and transport. A carafe that deserves a place on the table makes that choice far more appealing than a crate of bottles in the shed.

About Lotte de Raadt

Lotte de Raadt is a Dutch designer. She threw the first Tap Water Carafes herself on the wheel in her own workshop, and the terracotta carafes are still made by hand in small batches.

Vij5 is a Dutch design label of interior accessories, furniture and lighting. Arjan van Raadshoven and Anieke Branderhorst are its founders and put the collection together. The attention to the product and the story behind it come first. When a concept appeals to them it is translated into something that can be produced, made with care for materials and by skilled craftspeople. They work with well-known designers such as Floris Hovers, Maarten Baptist, Ontwerpduo, Daphna Laurens and David Derksen.

We aim to deliver your order quickly. Orders placed on weekdays before 4 PM will be shipped the same day, unless otherwise stated. Sometimes delivery may be delayed, for example if a product is out of stock. In that case, we will inform you as soon as possible and you can cancel if you wish.

Within the Netherlands, shipping is free from €49,-, otherwise it costs €4,95. Returns cost €3,95. In Belgium and Germany, shipping is free from €69,-, otherwise it costs €4,95, and returns cost €4,95.

Returns within the Netherlands cost €3.95. You can cancel your order up to 14 days after receipt without giving a reason via the email from our shipping partner Sendcloud. This email contains a link to the return portal, where you can create a return label.
After cancellation, you have another 14 days to return the product at a PostNL point. You will receive the full order amount back, excluding any shipping costs to the customer. The product must be returned with all accessories and, if possible, in its original condition and packaging. We will refund the amount within 14 days of receiving the return shipment. For other European countries, a return fee applies, calculated via the Sendcloud link.
