Remember Thirty Wooden Building Blocks | Set of 30

Thirty is a set of thirty wooden blocks from the German brand Remember, in a range of shapes and colours. You can build towers, houses, bridges or abstract sculptures with them — there is no prescribed result and no instruction leaflet. There is a puzzle in it all the same: all thirty blocks fit back into the box together as a single 20 by 20 cm square.

Thirty shapes, one square

Putting it away is the hard part. Every block has its own shape, and only in the right arrangement do they add up to the square that belongs in the box. Anyone who enjoys the building but not the tidying soon finds out that the tidying is the real puzzle.

From four years old to grown up

From about four, children build towers and houses with it without giving the square a thought. Adults tend to go for the construction: how high can it go, how far can you span, what happens if you limit yourself to five blocks. That makes it one of the few things in the house a preschooler and an adult will sit down to at the same table for entirely different reasons.

And when nobody is playing with it

The box does not need its lid to look good. The square of coloured blocks is the image in itself — on a sideboard, a bookshelf or the coffee table, Thirty sits there as tidied-away toys that do not look like toys. More than most games, this one does not disappear into a cupboard.
