Lakesidebox Oak | Nature Sounds | Relaxound

The Lakesidebox is a triangular sound box with the sounds of a forest lake that responds to movement. This version has a front in real oak. Walk past and the sound begins — two minutes long, and then it is quiet again.

What you hear

Water lapping at the shore, ducks quacking, birds in the trees around it and crickets in the background. It is not one sound but a whole lakeside at once. A motion sensor triggers it, and it also responds when the light goes on or off.

A front in real oak

The front is made of real oak from sustainably managed forests, worked in a German wood manufactory — the same one that makes the wooden fronts for the Oceanbox, the Junglebox and the Heidibox. The grain runs differently on every one, so no two are alike.

The flattest box Relaxound makes

At 3.3 centimetres deep and 95 grams, the Lakesidebox is the thinnest and lightest of the range. It barely stands out on a wall, and it fits on a narrow shelf or windowsill where the Zwitscherbox would be too deep.

1% for the planet

1% for the planet asks companies to contribute to protecting the environment. Relaxound donates 1% of its annual turnover to two environmental organisations. In Germany that is the Bergwaldprojekt, which works to preserve and care for the forest. In India, where the production facility is based, part of the donation goes to Sadhana Forest: an ecological project that refills groundwater reservoirs so that food can be grown and villagers do not have to move to the urban slums.
