Egg Piercer | Mosquito Stainless Steel | Take2-Design

The Mosquito is an egg piercer: a small plate of stainless steel with a needle in it, used to make a tiny hole in the rounded base of an egg before boiling. That lets the air escape from the air pocket as the egg heats up, instead of pushing the shell open. Fewer cracked eggs, less escaped white.

How it works

Stand the egg rounded-side down on the Mosquito and press gently until the shell is pierced. That is all there is to it — like the prick of a mosquito, which is where the name comes from. The egg is ready for the pan.

From a single piece of steel

The whole thing is made from one piece of stainless steel, bent and laser cut. No screws, no parts that can come loose, nothing that can rust. Which is why it can simply go in the dishwasher — unlike most kitchen tools of this size.

It is small enough to disappear into the cutlery drawer, but at 4.5 by 4.5 centimetres large enough not to get lost. It was designed by Markus Roling and Volker Zitzmann for Take2-Design in Rosenheim, Germany.

Before and after boiling

The Mosquito does its work before the egg goes in the pan. For afterwards Take2 makes the Clack egg topper, which opens the top of the boiled egg in one movement. Together they cover the whole egg: intact into the pan, neatly open at the table. For anyone who wants the complete set there is also a gift box with egg cups.

Within the Netherlands, shipping is free from €49,-, otherwise it costs €4,95. Returns cost €3,95. In Belgium and Germany, shipping is free from €69,-, otherwise it costs €4,95, and returns cost €4,95.

Returns within the Netherlands cost €3.95. You can cancel your order up to 14 days after receipt without giving a reason via the email from our shipping partner Sendcloud. This email contains a link to the return portal, where you can create a return label.
After cancellation, you have another 14 days to return the product at a PostNL point. You will receive the full order amount back, excluding any shipping costs to the customer. The product must be returned with all accessories and, if possible, in its original condition and packaging. We will refund the amount within 14 days of receiving the return shipment. For other European countries, a return fee applies, calculated via the Sendcloud link.
