Take2-Design makes household objects that solve problems you did not know existed. Opening a boiled egg without shell fragments ending up inside it, taking one toothpick without touching the rest, piercing an egg without breaking it: all of it is possible thanks to the clever designs of Take2-Design, which are guaranteed to raise a smile. The company is based in Rosenheim, Bavaria, and works with designers including Hartmut Dolp, Markus Roling and Volker Zitzmann.
Take2's best-known product is the Clack: an egg topper that opens the top of a boiled egg. Place the metal cap on the egg, lift the steel ball and let it drop. Clack! — a clean, round breaking line appears, along which you lift the top off neatly. The shell is not cut but broken, exactly in a ring. No more shattered shell, no fragments in your egg. As an egg opener it is the quickest method there is.
The Clack comes in many versions. The difference is in the top, which is what you hold it by. There are ceramic eggs painted by hand — with a bee, a cat, flowers, a rabbit, red hearts and more. Alongside those are a pear wood ball, a black silicone ball, a football, and three metal editions in matt black, matt gold and rose gold.
In Germany the Clack is called an Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher: a causer of predetermined breaking points in eggshells. The word is half the fun in itself. It is printed on the box, and in small letters on the rod of the Clack. A fine word for the breakfast table, and typical of the brand: functional design with a sense of humour.
Take2 makes more for the laid table. The Bend-It salt and pepper set is two steel screws: bend the screw and the salt falls through the gaps onto your plate. The Voilà toothpick holder rolls across the table and releases a single toothpick, so you never touch the rest. And the Mosquito egg piercer makes a small hole in the egg so it does not crack while boiling — the logical companion to the Clack, only before the egg goes in the pan.
