Egg Topper & Egg Opener | Clack Flowers Ceramic | Take2-Design

The Clack is an egg topper that opens the top of a boiled egg. Place the metal cap on the egg, lift the steel ball and let it drop. Clack! — a clean, round breaking line appears in the shell, along which you can now lift the top off neatly. No more shattered shell or annoying fragments in your egg. This version has a small ceramic egg on top with flowers on it.

How it works

The shell is not cut but broken, exactly in a ring. Place the cap on a hard or soft boiled egg, drop the ball and lift the top off with a knife — or with the Clack itself, by tilting it slightly. If it does not work first time, drop the ball once more. As an egg opener this is the quickest and best method there is: one movement and your egg is open, with a clean edge.

The word it all started with

In Germany this Clack is called an Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher: a causer of predetermined breaking points in eggshells. The word is half the fun in itself. It is printed on the box, and in small letters on the rod of the Clack. A fine word for the breakfast table. Both the word and the Clack itself are guaranteed to raise a laugh. Functional design with a sense of humour.

The original

The Clack was designed by Hartmut Dolp, Markus Roling and Volker Zitzmann for Take2-Design in Rosenheim, Germany. The versions differ in the top: wood, silicone, ceramic or metal. The ceramic eggs are painted by hand.

Flowers on an egg

The top of this version is itself a small ceramic egg, hand-painted with flowers. Take2 calls this version Flowers. Because it is handwork, no two are exactly alike. The floral motif suits a table laid with fresh flowers, and turns an ordinary breakfast into something spring-like.

As a gift

Once you have used this egg topper you will never open an egg the traditional way again. But it is not only handy for yourself. It also makes a wonderful gift. And with so many versions there is a suitable one for everyone: a bee, red spots, a cat, Good Morning, musical notes, a plain matt black one and many more. There is always a Clack that suits you. For anyone who wants the complete set there is also a gift box with egg cups and the Mosquito egg piercer.
