Satellitebox Tawny Owl Oak | Little House with Birdsong | Relaxound

The Satellitebox is a small house with the sound of a single bird, or another calming sound from nature. This version plays the call of the tawny owl and has a front in real oak. Walk past and the calling begins — a minute long, and then it is quiet again. The sensor also responds to light. The Satellitebox charges over a USB-C cable.

The tawny owl

The tawny owl is the owl you hear most often and almost never see. The familiar “too-whit too-whoo” is in fact two birds: the male gives the hooting, the female answers with a sharp “kee-wick”. Together they make the duet that stands in for a night-time wood in every old film. Its feathers have a soft, frayed edge that muffles the sound of the wingbeat, so it flies almost silently.

A front in real wood

The front is made of real oak, not veneer or a printed wood effect. The grain of the natural wood runs differently on every one, so no two Satelliteboxes are quite alike. It is the same wood as the Zwitscherbox in oak. Together they make a fine pair if you want to use them side by side.

On its own or with the Zwitscherbox

The Satellitebox has the same shape as the Zwitscherbox, only smaller. Where the Zwitscherbox plays a whole wood, the Satellitebox Tawny Owl plays the sound of a single bird. Use it on its own, or combine it with the Zwitscherbox: then you hear the wood, with your own favourite bird above it. Spread a few around the room and you have a soundscape of your own.

1% for the planet

1% for the planet asks companies to contribute to protecting the environment. Relaxound donates 1% of its annual turnover to two environmental organisations. In Germany that is the Bergwaldprojekt, which works to preserve and care for the forest. In India, where the production facility is based, part of the donation goes to Sadhana Forest: an ecological project that refills groundwater reservoirs so that food can be grown and villagers do not have to move to the urban slums.
