A little house with bird sounds

The Satellitebox is a small house with a single sound from nature. Walk past and it begins — a minute long, and then it is quiet again. There is a choice of the song of the blackbird, the nightingale, the song thrush and the northern cardinal, the call of the tawny owl, and the sound of a wind chime, a forest brook, forest rain or crickets.

On its own or with the Zwitscherbox

The Satellitebox has the same shape as the Zwitscherbox, only smaller. Where the Zwitscherbox plays a whole wood, the Satellitebox plays a single sound. Many people combine the two: the wood in the hallway, and their own favourite bird beside it. Spread a few around the room and you have a soundscape of your own.

Acrylic or oak

Every sound comes in two versions. The Classic has an acrylic front in a soft shade that suits the sound: yellow for the blackbird, violet for the nightingale, apricot for the northern cardinal. The other has a front in real oak, with grain that runs differently on every one.

How it works

A sensor responds to movement and to light. After about sixty seconds the sound stops by itself. The switch on the side turns it off or chooses between two volume settings. The house measures 7.7 by 7 centimetres, is made of biodegradable plastic, and charges via USB-C. You can stand it up or hang it.

1% for the planet

Relaxound donates 1% of its annual turnover to two environmental organisations. In Germany that is the Bergwaldprojekt, which works to preserve the forest. In India, where the production facility is based, part goes to Sadhana Forest: a project that refills groundwater reservoirs so that food can be grown and villagers do not have to move to the slums.
