About Gluckigluck

The Gluckigluck is a porcelain water jug shaped like a fish. As you pour it makes a gurgling “Glug-Glug”. This happens because air is trapped above the water in the hollow tail; the moment you tilt the jug it escapes in bubbles. It is a sound that never fails to draw attention at the table and surprises people every time. As well as a jug for water or wine, the Gluckigluck is often used as decoration in the interior, as a vase or as a holder for kitchen utensils.

Since the 1870s, made by hand

The design is more than a hundred and fifty years old and is still made by hand in Stoke-on-Trent, the pottery region of England. Every jug passes through six pairs of hands before it is finished and is fired twice at 1200 degrees. There is a stamp on the base by which you recognise the original. And only the original makes the “Glug-Glug”.

Different finishes

Most jugs have a glossy glaze. Alongside those there is a matt version that absorbs the light instead, and the Lustre Edition with a pearlescent sheen, whose colour shifts with the light. We stock only the largest size, the XL of 1.2 litres, because it is the only one that really works as a water jug.

Not only the fish

The range has grown since. There is a salt and pepper set of two small fish, in the same colours as the jugs. And there is the Krokigluck: a jug shaped like a crocodile, with the same surprising sound.
