How the Oceanbox works

The Oceanbox is a round sound box with the sound of the sea, triggered by a motion sensor. Walk past, or turn on the light, and you hear the surf and the calls of seagulls. There are two different recordings inside, each a hundred seconds long, so it does not sound the same every time. The volume is continuously adjustable. You can stand the Oceanbox up or hang it, and it charges over USB.

Acrylic or wood

Every version has a different front. The Waves has acrylic with a wave pattern in blue and white, the White a plain acrylic front. The wooden versions come in oak and in recycled vintage wood, made by hand by a German wood manufacturer and reminiscent of ship planks and driftwood. No two wooden fronts are alike. The size is the same throughout: 11.5 cm high, 10.8 cm wide and 5 cm deep.

Where to put it

The Oceanbox works best somewhere you pass regularly. In the bathroom, where the sound of water belongs, but just as well in the living room, on a desk or on a balcony. Every time you go by, you stand at the sea for a moment.

Sea sounds, or something else

The Oceanbox comes from the same range as the Zwitscherbox by Relaxound, the best-known model, which plays birdsong. There is also the Junglebox with rainforest sounds, the Lakesidebox with ducks and the Heidibox with Alpine sounds. The smaller Satelliteboxes play a single sound and are made to be combined.

1% for the planet

Relaxound donates 1% of its annual turnover to two environmental organisations. In Germany that is the Bergwaldprojekt, which works to preserve the forest. In India, where the production facility is based, part goes to Sadhana Forest: a project that refills groundwater reservoirs so that food can be grown and villagers do not have to move to the slums.
