Kaweco | High-Quality Writing Instruments | Classic Pens

About Kaweco

Kaweco was founded in Heidelberg in 1883, making writing instruments of wood at the time. The brand is now based in Nuremberg and works with aluminium, brass, copper, steel and plastic. The octagonal design returns in almost every range and has become Kaweco's signature: you recognise a Kaweco by its shape before you see the logo.

The Sport range

The name Sport dates from 1911 and came about because the pen was designed for sportsmen, military officers and people on the move. That principle never changed: closed, a Sport measures 10.5 cm and fits in an inside pocket or a case, and screw the cap onto the back and it grows to 13 cm, sitting in the hand like a full-size pen.

What separates the ranges is the material. The Classic Sport is plastic in historical colours, the AL Sport anodised aluminium, the Steel Sport stainless steel and the Brass Sport brass, which develops a patina of its own over the years. The Supra is brass and has a spacer ring you use to make it longer. The Liliput is the smallest of them all.

Which pen suits you

Most models come in five versions, and each writes differently:

• Fountain pen: writes with ink from a cartridge or converter, with a nib that adapts to your hand. The most classic, and the most pleasant if you write a lot by hand.
• Rollerball: sits in between. Thinner ink than a ballpoint, running over a ceramic ball, giving a dark even line without any pressure.
• Ballpoint: the easiest on the move. One press of the button and you write, with no cap to lose.
• Mechanical pencil 0.7 mm: for notes and jottings you want to be able to erase.
• Clutch pencil 3.2 mm: a thick lead in 5B, meant for sketching and drawing.

Refills and accessories

Refills are sold separately in a range of colours and thicknesses, so a Kaweco lasts as long as you want to use it. For travelling there are leather cases for one or two pens, and a separate clip to fasten the pen to a notepad. Every pen is made in Germany.
